The College Board is committing $25 million to encourage more students to take the steps necessary to get into college. This first-of-its kind national scholarship program lays out six simple steps that all students can take to get into college. Students have the chance to earn scholarships when they:
- Build their college list.
- Practice for the SAT.
- Improve their SAT score.
- Strengthen their college list (narrow down the selections).
- Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
- Apply to college.
These six steps highlighted by College Board Opportunity Scholarships help students PLAN by making a good starter list of schools, PREPARE so they can take their best shot at getting in, and PAY for college by earning scholarships and applying for financial aid.
Beginning with the class of 2020, the College Board will be awarding scholarships ranging from $500 to $40,000. This scholarship program is not your typical program. There is no essay or application required, and it doesn't have a minimum GPA or SAT score.
Students can begin today by signing up at the College Board Opportunity Scholarships website. The first thing to do is to make a starter list of six colleges they want to attend. Follow the link from the website to BigFuture to get started. Just by making that list, you earn a chance for a $500 scholarship!
